The National School of the Judiciary launched the "Almanzor Gonzalez Canahuate Chair of Jurisprudence", with the purpose of raising the study and analysis of the outstanding jurisprudence issued by the Dominican courts, in coordination with universities and the legal community nationwide.
The chair, which is the first to be held on jurisprudence, is dedicated to Dr. Almanzor González Canahuate, a renowned Dominican jurist, academic and researcher, and one of the most important jurisprudential compilers in the country, teacher of generations of lawyers and prolific author of legal works.
The event was moderated by Justice Justiniano Montero, judge of the First Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice, who referred to the importance of the study of jurisprudence for the strengthening of the social and democratic rule of law.
Dr. Dariel Suárez, Director of the National School of the Judiciary, was in charge of the welcoming remarks and emphasized that the Chair is a space for the generation of critical analysis and understanding of the decisions of the judicial processes.
In presenting the schedule, Dr. Suárez emphasized that quarterly meetings will be held throughout the year in coordination with the law schools and faculties of Dominican universities and that the analyzed works will be disseminated through the Virtual Library of the National School of the Judiciary.
Dr. Almanzor Gonzalez Canahuate expressed that achieving the development of a proper legal doctrine is a challenge for the evolution of the study of national law and urged that the research work of the universities and the National School of the Judiciary focus on the knowledge and analysis of the relevant case files ruled by the Supreme Court of Justice, specifically of the rulings of principle and doctrinal interest.
"Beyond any doubt, jurisprudence has a permanent, practical and theoretical importance in the evolution and creation of law, and its methodical study can significantly help to prepare a better intellectually trained lawyer than those trained by traditional methods in which the professorship prevails," said the jurist.
The next meeting will be held on Thursday, May 26 in coordination with the Law School of the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo.
