The plenary session of the Supreme Court of Justice dedicated the solemn act of the XXV swearing in of lawyers to the career of Dr. Almanzor González Canahuate, for his great contributions to the law in the country.
The President of the Supreme Court of Justice and of the Council of the Judicial Power, Magistrate Luis Henry Molina Peña, stated that "the Law is the limit of force so that it does not become an abuse, but that force is born and reproduces itself long before it reaches the justice system.
In his speech, after leading this Thursday, October 28, the XXV virtual swearing-in of 308 lawyers, Magistrate Molina Peña urged the new professionals to understand their work, aware of the social aspects involved.
"To concretize the ideal of justice is nourished by social institutions and the community. Without material, psycho-affective and cultural conditions, justice is precarious. If there is injustice in the spaces and environments of family, personal or institutional exchange, violence will be normalized as a way to survive. Reproducing those injustices that do not proceed, generating a vicious circle: abusive couples, violent neighbors, conflictive schools, authorities without limits, criminal actions...".
"The courts decide and must decide on the facts. Each one interprets what he understands and looks at with his own prism. The more disadvantaged their living conditions are, the less legitimacy and greater distrust in institutions, including the judiciary. So it is a non-delegable task of magistrates to exercise their work knowing what is expected of them, observing their legal duty."
Molina Peña called to "practice law as a conscious path of constant review and study. This is what will provide the tools to achieve concrete advances in favor of the people and the republic. Before you, the new lawyers, is the challenge of demonstrating that the rule of law and its improvement is the very power of civilization against brute force".
During the swearing-in ceremony of the 530 legal professionals held in the Sala Augusta of the Supreme Court of Justice in the presence of the full court and transmitted through the virtual Youtube channel of the Judiciary, the Magistrate urged the lawyers to practice with dignity and respect for due process.
In addition to Gonzalez Canahuate and part of his family, the event was attended by the Director of Ethics and Government Integrity, Milagros Ortiz Bosch; the singer Niní Cáffaro, as well as the resident coordinator of the United Nations System (UN), who at the beginning of the swearing-in ceremony offered a few words to the sworn in on the role of lawyers in a democratic society.
