The Supreme Court of Justice dedicated this swearing-in ceremony to the career of Judge Olga Herrera Carbuccia, who was the first Dominican to reach the International Criminal Court.
The Plenary of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) held this Thursday the XXIV hearing for the swearing in of lawyers dedicated to the career of Justice Olga Herrera Carbuccia, where 1,253 legal professionals took the oath and were formally invested to practice law.
The president of the SCJ, Magistrate Luis Henry Molina Peña, stated that the judicial function merits great perspective for the disciplined exercise, in observance of the law and the legal principles necessary also to take care of the judge's function.
In delivering his speech at the virtual swearing-in ceremony of male and female lawyers, of which 704 are women and 549 are men, the magistrate said that society needs sufficient critical distance in male and female judges to see in an impartial and wise way the conflicts on which we have to decide.
The presiding magistrate said that in the different roles before the justice system, the correct application of the law must be reviewed in the face of society.
He emphasized that what allows the honor of a lawyer to be deserved is that we go to court to seek justice as the greater good, to ask that the application of the law be equitable and that due process be respected.
Magistrate Henry Molina urged those sworn in to continue updating their knowledge, in the understanding that the law changes every day and knowledge needs to be constantly strengthened through the consultation of different sources.
"I invite you to be part every day of those who push for the evolution of law and justice. To live the passion for the work. It is up to you now, in the courts, to win or lose the battle for truth and justice, for democracy and its guarantor: the rule of law. A mission that we must exercise always inflamed with constitutional patriotism, respect for the rules, commitment and love for the Judiciary, the Law and the Republic," advised the Chief Justice.
