Henry Molina affirms that justice system is fundamental pillar of democracy and peaceful coexistence

A group of 910 legal professionals were sworn in before the Plenary of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ), during the XXXIII hearing for the swearing in of lawyers, in which the presiding judge of the high court, Henry Molina, affirmed that the justice system is a fundamental pillar of democracy and peaceful coexistence. 

The swearing-in ceremony was dedicated to SCJ Judge Blas Fernández Gómez, who was described by Molina as an example of the practice of law and justice in the country. 

Addressing those sworn in, he said that in a world where justice is challenged even by fashions, where post-truth and populism claim the erosion of democratic institutions, the work of lawyers takes on even greater importance, since society places its trust in legal professionals to enforce the principles of legality, equity and respect for the rights of individuals. 

"To you, new lawyers, is the noble task of improving and perfecting our judicial system. Be agents of transformation, promote diligent and responsible justice, and work tirelessly for a more just and equitable country," said Henry Molina.  

The also president of the Judicial Power Council (CPJ) urged them to follow the legacy of Magistrate Blas Fernandez and urged them to practice their profession with integrity, transparency and dedication.  

He also explained that the practice of law is a path that requires continuous dedication, constant updating and, above all, an unwavering vocation of service .  

"In your role as the new guardians of justice, I urge you to follow the example of Justice Fernandez. Always fight for fairness, truth and the protection of the fundamental rights of all people; in every case you take, in every hearing you attend, remember that you are called to be defenders of justice and promoters of human dignity," he assured.  

Of the 910 newly sworn-in lawyers, 506 are women and 404 are men, graduates of different universities. 

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by judges from different courts, representatives of the Public Prosecutor's Office, the Public Defender's Office, legislators and members of the legal community.  

Blas Rafael Fernández Gómez 

He received his law degree on January 26, 1980 from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra. On June 24 of that year he was appointed by the Senate of the Republic as Justice of the Peace of the First Circumscription of the Municipality of La Vega, and in that capacity, Judge of Instruction, Judge of the First and Second Criminal Chamber of the Court of First Instance of the Judicial District of La Vega, interim. Promoted on September 16, 1982 to judge of the Civil, Commercial and Labor Chamber of the Court of First Instance of the Judicial District of La Vega. 

He re-entered the Judicial Branch on June 10, 1998 as judge of the Civil, Commercial and Labor Chamber of the Court of Appeals of the Judicial Department of La Vega, later becoming second substitute presiding judge, first substitute presiding judge and interim presiding judge of that court on several occasions.  

Judge Blas Fernández Gómez He was appointed presiding judge of the Third Chamber of the Civil and Commercial Chamber of the Court of Appeals of the National District and on several occasions acting president of said court, from where he became a Judge of the Supreme Court of Justice in July 2017. 

He was elected to the Judicial Council in April 2021, as a representative of the judges of the Supreme Court of Justice.
