Chile's Judicial Branch receives support from Chile for the implementation of the law on the use of digital media

About the Judiciary

Within the framework of the cooperation relations between the Dominican and Chilean Judicial Branches, a technical and inter-institutional agenda was completed with judges, the Public Prosecutor's Office, the Public Defense, judicial technicians and other members of the legal community, in order to take advantage of the best practices in digital judicial processing and other digital mechanisms for user service.

The activities, coordinated by the Implementation Committee of the aforementioned law, were moderated by the head of the Institutional Development Department of the Chilean Judicial Branch, engineer Mario Lara Orellana, who has extensive experience in the development of new judicial services and participated as a member of the management team responsible for the implementation of the Electronic Processing Law, and who led the implementation of projects such as the Open Data Portal of the Chilean Judicial Branch.

The broad agenda included talks to the national legal community held at the Catholic University of Santo Domingo, a meeting with the judges of the Supreme Court of Justice, with a massive attendance in an open and participatory dialogue, as well as with the judges of the courts where the implementation of the law will begin and the coordinating judges. In addition, technical sessions were held with the team in charge of developing the tools for the implementation of the media law and the judicial service.

Likewise, socialization meetings were held with the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Public Defender's Office to discuss issues such as the digitalization of justice, interconnection between institutions, data updating, highlighting the importance of opening interoperability bridges in order to make resources more efficient and maximize them for a better service to citizens.

Orellana stressed that it must be understood that technology is not the heart of these changes but a tool that allows these changes to be generated. The protagonists are the process and the people.

The Committee for the Implementation of the referred regulations works with effort and dedication in order to achieve the fulfillment of the proposed goals based on the designed agenda, on the basis of a work schedule duly approved by the Plenary of the Supreme Court of Justice, as the body established by law to carry out the implementation.
