The Judicial Council approves the update of the Judicial Scale for the year 2024.

The Judicial Scale strengthens the judicial career and protects the independence of judges.

The Judicial Power Council (CPJ) in its ordinary session No. 20-2024 dated July 2, 2024 approved the update of the Judicial Scale for the year 2024, in accordance with Article 14 of Resolution No. 001-2021, which establishes the Regulations that govern the Judicial Scale System and the Provision of Judicial Positions.

The Judicial Ladder is a key tool that allows judges to develop within the Judicial Career, ascending from one category or hierarchy to another based on criteria of seniority, ability, personal and professional merit.

As of 2021, the Judicial Scale guarantees the values upheld by the Judiciary, based on the principles of integrity, merit, legality, capacity, equal access, publicity, irremovability, permanence, responsibility, work improvement, functional awareness, efficiency and effectiveness.

The decision taken by the CPJ is the exercise of a regulatory attribution that for the last four years has consolidated the promotions, transfers and changes of judges, strengthening the Judicial Career, in accordance with the commitment of this branch of the State with transparency and institutionality.

At present, the 2024 Judicial Service has 730 judges of different categories, ranked on the basis of seniority, capacity, personal and professional merit. Of these judges, 256 correspond to the Court of Appeals, 380 to First Instance and 94 to Justices of the Peace. Of these 458 are women and 272 are men.
